Menuism Featured Reviewer: lolacola

December 31, 2008

Menuism reviewers are truly awesome! Whether they found an unexpected tasty gem of a restaurant or took it for the team after having a terrible meal, we truly applaud all their efforts in giving us the scoop on where we should be spending our hard-earned money on. On that note, I’d love to introduce you to those reviewers who we feel really contribute quality content to the site as well as quality information to fellow Menuism’ers. Our Featured Reviewer today is Danielle, better known as lolacola. So let’s learn more about Danielle from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

newfeaturedreviewerdanielleIntroduction

I live in Calgary, Alberta and I work as a legal assistant.

1. How did you find out about Menuism?

I was looking for reviews of a new restaurant I wanted to try and came across Menuism on some Google search results.

2. What about Menuism first appealed to you?

I really liked that anyone could add restaurants or change and update information about restaurants so that the information was current. I also like that Menuism users can have a profile and I love the “try list” option so you can keep track of places you want to go.

3. What restaurant did you write your first review about?

The first restaurant I reviewed was the James Joyce Irish Pub, in down town Calgary.

4. What is your food philosophy?

I will try anything once. I also love cooking and try to re-create some of the dishes I have had at restaurants at home

5. What are your favorite restaurants?

Vero Bistro, the Embarcadaro, the Redwater Rustic Grille and Momoyama Sushi.

6. What are your favorite cuisines?

Italian and Asian.

7. What are your favorite comfort foods?

Anything pasta and my dad’s chili. My favorite comfort food in the winter is soup; there is nothing like soup to make you feel warm from the inside out.

8. What is the best meal you ever ate and why?

The best meal I ever ate was at dinner party thrown by one of my friends. He was a chef at Rouge at the time and he made all of his closest friends a fantastic four course meal. I have never had better slow cooked ribs. What made that meal the best was more then just the food. There was about 15 people there and although some of us were best friends and some of us were meeting for the first time, the food brought us together. Good wine and conversation was enjoyed by all.

9. Do you have any favorite cookbooks (if any)?

Giada’s Kitchen: New Italian Favorites, by Giada De Laurentiis. I love her show on the food network.

10. What words of encouragement would you give to first time Menuism reviewers?

Put in paragraph markers for longer reviews, it makes them easier to read. Think to yourself “would you go back to this restaurant?” and “what is the one thing you wish you knew about this restaurant before you came here?” Including the answers to these questions in reviews is really helpful to other people.

Congratulations on your recognition as a reviewer. It’s heartening to see more and more Canadian reviews. I’ll definitely be looking for your future reviews.
